A Kingsport woman has shaken nerves after she said a man pulled her out of her car and took off with it. Police said it's one of a string of carjackings Wednesday afternoon.
Police said it actually began when the suspect, Charles Stanley III, allegedly got into a fight with a man inside a minivan as they driving on Interstate 81 in Greene County.
Greene County police state the suspect took off with the van after the fight and headed toward Sullivan County.
Sullivan County police told News 5, they believed the van was running out of gas when the suspect was driving along West Valley Drive in Kingsport, when he would allegedly cross paths with Kim Trephon.
"You never expect anything like that to happen out here," Kim Trephon told News 5.
Kim Trephon was driving home on West Valley Drive in Kingsport after job hunting, when she said a van stopped right in front of her, and a man suspected to be Charles Stanley III, stepped out.
"He opens my door and pulls me by the arm, I'll show you the bruise," said Trephon as she showed News 5 two bruises on her arm.
Trephon said Stanley told her he was on the run, and he demanded she get out of the car.
"I didn't know if he had a gun. Maybe he was just like, 'I'm going to go over here, and get this girl out of her car and take her car, and if she fights I'll kill her,'" said Trephon.
She said tried to stand her ground but was overpowered.
"He hit this arm off the steering wheel and unbuckled my seatbelt and then pulled me by the back of my hair right here to the ground," Trephon added.
Sullivan County police reports state Stanley allegedly took off in Trephon's 1995 Geo Prizm.
Just a few miles into his trip, Stanley is accused of trying to steal another car at the B&B Package Store.
Kingsport police said in a press release, Stanley is suspected of poking a victim, holding her arm, and telling her to get out of her car. However, the release said employees came running out and the Stanley left.
According to Tennessee Highway Patrol officials, Stanley was driving down Orebank Road when he lost control of the car and crashed.
Sullivan County's public information officer Leslie Earhart told News 5, Stanley was transported to the hospital then booked in the Sullivan County Detention Center.
"We do know that he definitely was intoxicated. It may be a combination of alcohol and drugs, but he was definitely intoxicated," Earhart added.
Even as the suspect is locked away behind bars, Kim Trephon is now facing new fears.
"Makes me not want to drive," said Trephan.
Sullivan County Sheriff's Office is charging Stanley with motor vehicle theft, carjacking, and assault among other charges.

Stanley's bond is set at $15,000.
