Jordan Williamson's 48-yard field goal gave the Cardinal a 20-6 lead early in the third quarter, and Hogan connected with Ty Montgomery on a 17-yard touchdown pass five minutes later to help Stanford draw clear. Montgomery had four receptions for 81 yards for Stanford, which held San Jose State to 35 rushing yards and snapped the Spartans' eight-game winning streak. San Jose State, which lost 20-17 to Stanford last season, went 3-for-12 on third-down conversions and were outscored 27-10 after the first quarter.
