Repair work at TVA's Raccoon Mountain Pumped Storage Plant has caused the utility to close the visitor center there.
The center and its parking lot were closed Monday and will remain closed until fall.
The utility discovered cracks in the turbines of its four-unit hydroelectric plant and is making repairs this summer.
The Raccoon Mountain plant pumps water from the Tennessee River up the mountain into a 528-acre lake and releases it through the turbines during peak demand periods.
TVA is developing a history walking trail near the upper reservoir and is working with the Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association to keep the mountain trail system open this summer.
In addition to the turbine repairs, other maintenance will be performed on the 35-year-old plant.
