As summer inches its way into the Tri-Cities, Bristol is getting a head start on the seasonal fun from both sides of the state line.
The fourteenth annual Border Bash kicked off its free concert series Friday night.
It has all makings of a great block party; music, food, and lots of fun.
"A lot of downtowns don't have anything like this, so it's nice to come down and visit with people," said John Robbins, a local enjoying downtown Bristol.
Bristol kicked off its annual summer Border Bash concert series at the 700 block of State Street bringing crowds in by the hundreds to downtown.
Rene Rodgers with Believe in Bristol said they expect "between 500 to1,000 depending on the weather."
"I think it's fun to come down here and listen to music and support Bristol," said Gracie Dowell as she took a break to talk with friends and family.
Bristol is springing into a fury of summertime activity.
A Korean children's choir packed the house at the Paramount, and a Friday night car show revved up another crowd.
It all means big bucks to businesses like Macado's honing in on hungry crowds.
"I'd say [we get] 10, 15 percent extra for the night, and that's pretty solid for a Friday night," said Kristen Helton, Macado's general manager.
With every festive Friday night, there's hope there's more cash to come.
"We're excited for Thursday nights at the mural and Fridays for Border Bash," added Helton.
"It's a great way to for people to see what a great downtown we have here in Bristol and also to get people interested in these independent small businesses," said Rodgers.
It's in hopes of making Bristol an even better place to live.
The Border Bash will make its way all the way up State Street over the next few months to highlight different parts of downtown.
The party strikes back up the first and third Fridays of each month through August.
