Coalition For Kids has applied for 21st Century Learning Center (21st CCLC) grant funding. If awarded, 21st CCLC funds have the potential to significantly impact children and families served through Coalition
For Kids’ after-school programming. Award announcements are expected late-June/early-July 2013.
21st CCLC is a federally-funded program that supports after-school community learning centers that operate statewide.
Services include academic intervention and enrichment activities along with a broad array of youth development opportunities.
These after-school and summer programs are designed to complement the students’ regular school day. 21st CCLC programs mainly serve students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools and their families.
After-school programs help students meet the core standards in academic subjects such as language arts and math. In addition, other educational services are offered to family members of students participating in the program in order to further engage parents in their student’s learning and achievement goals.
Coalition For Kids, Inc. is a faith-based, non-profit agency that began in 1998 as a grassroots effort planted within one of the lowest income, highest crime areas in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Local business leaders and concerned citizens envisioned a safe environment where the children and youth of this impoverished community could gather for academic assistance and enrichment activities.
Since opening our doors in March of 1999, the Coalition has grown from one main site serving 25 students to partnerships with the Johnson City School System, Johnson City Housing Authority and several area churches that have enabled us to expand into multiple locations serving more than 400 children each year.
Our mission is to provide educational, spiritual and social guidance to underprivileged children so that they have the opportunity to reach their full potential in their respective communities.
