Tennessee First Lady Crissy Haslam is stopped by the Tri-Cities with a special challenge for local children.
Inside Sycamore Shoals' State Park's new exhibit Mrs. Haslam read aloud a book on the American Revolution to about 30 children.
It's part of the first lady's 'Read20 Family Book Club' where a book is selected every month for a family to read together for 20 minutes every day.
Mrs. Haslam said this challenge could help improve literacy rates across the state of Tennessee.
"More than half of our children are not reading on grade level at the end of their third grade, and if you're not reading on grade level by then, then you're starting to get behind," Mrs. Haslam said.
Mrs. Haslam said Sycamore Shoals' was the perfect fit to launch this month's book called George vs. George: The American Revolution as Seen from Both Sides since this area played an integral role in early 18th century history.
