Many developments in progress on both sides of Bristol

Bristol is a busy place this year. Two major retail developments and a smattering of smaller projects are under construction.
The Bristol Chamber of Commerce says a car wash is coming to Volunteer Parkway. It will be joined by a service center that specializes in oil changes.
Bristol, Virginia mayor Guy Odum says the city is courting a restaurant to State Street that would move into the now-vacant CityMac location. Odum tells News 5 it's a business new to the area.
But on the other end of town, dirt is literally being moved by the truckload. "We had a tough summer full of rain, but we've battled through it. Everything is right on schedule," said Pinnacle developer Steve Johnson.
Construction crews have already started on Bass Pro Shop, laying the store's plumbing before the concrete pad is poured. They hope to open the outdoor supercenter in mid-2014. Click here to view photos of the progress.
Johnson is plenty excited about the other tenants, like Belk, a few popular dining destinations, and a movie theater coming to the project that he calls a 'strategic location'. "There's over a half a million people in this market. It's the 70th largest market in America. This group that we've put together takes full advantage of that," said Johnson.
The group, helped by two NASCAR race weeks every year, has the potential to tap nearly three million people in six states for customers. "Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris was on site this past [NASCAR race] weekend, and he stood right here where we are standing and thought that this could be the best site that they've ever chosen in their entire corporate career," said Johnson.
It's site that will have some elite company in the future, but Johnson is keeping those names a secret for now. "When the time is right, there will be an announcement," Johnson said with a smile.
