There's good news when it comes to graduation rates in the Commonwealth of Virginia -- according to Governor Bob McDonnell, more students are completing high school.
Governor McDonnell says the Virginia on-time graduation rate has topped 89 percent, and that means nearly nine out of ten students who entered the ninth grade in the fall of 2009 earned a diploma within four years.
The Commonwealth has also seen a nearly eight percent increase in on-time graduation rates since 2008. Statewide, the dropout rate also fell to 5.9 percent for the class of 2013, compared with 6.5 percent for the class of 2012.
Governor McDonnell is crediting students, parents, counselors and other educators with the achievement.
