Holiday TV specials have become as synonymous with the season as Christmas trees, Santa and egg nog. So when the folks at Mashable decided to bring some of that televised holiday cheer into real life, passing New Yorkers were understandably delighted.

Flash mob members played characters from the whole "Peanuts" gang -- Schroeder with his piano, Pig Pen with his bass and even someone dressed as Snoopy -- and re-enacted the famous dance scene from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" on the streets of New York.

In the video Mashable posted Dec. 19, several passersby can be seen stopping with smiles on their faces and whipping out phones to record the dancers.

It apparently wasn't just New Yorkers who appreciated the flash mob. The video had more than 250,000 views on YouTube by Monday morning.
