App Power looking to raise rates

ROANOKE, Va. -

A power company that serves our area is hoping to raise electric rates on its customers in Virginia.

Appalachian Power is asking for a 4-percent increase. But that would be offset largely by other surcharges that are set to expire. So the net effect would be about a 1-point-5 percent increase.

For example, the bill for a typical residential customer using a-thousand kilowatt-hours is set to fall from about 112-dollars to 109-dollars. If the new rate increase is approved, your typical household bill would increase to 113-dollars a month early next year.
