Appalachian Electric Power asking for rate increase

Published On: Apr 02 2013 05:26:36 AM EDT   Updated On: Apr 02 2013 12:20:28 PM EDT

Appalachian Power announced it is seeking a 1.5 percent rate increase in Virginia. That request was filed with the State Corporation Commission.

Appalachian Power and Wheeling Power won't seek a rate increase in West Virginia this year. The subsidiaries of American Electric Power made their plans known in their annual filing to the Public Service Commission of West Virginia on Monday.

This is the second year in a row Appalachian Power has not requested a rate increase. If the PSC agrees to Appalachian's proposal, rates will remain stable into 2014.

The utility has about one million customers in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee.
