Car crashes into home, driver tells police she couldn't reach pedals
A woman was charged with reckless driving Monday morning after she crashed her car into a house.
It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Westfield Street.
Bristol, Virginia police said the 78-year-old driver was leaving a retirement home on a hilly side street when her car went off the road and into the back of the house. The crash pushed in the wall on a storage room into the home.
Police said she then put the car in reverse and backed through a fence into the woods.
The homeowner, Jason Owens, said he has worried about that curvy road and his children's safety. "I've asked for a guardrail there," he said. "If my children would have been out here playing, they might not have been here right now."
No one was hurt in the accident.
Police said the driver claims someone moved her seat in the car and she couldn't reach the pedals.
