CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. -

Carter County high schools could soon come to come together as one.

A meeting was held last night by the Long Range Facilities Team to present plans to the Carter County School Board.

According to the Johnson City Press, consolidation was proposed -- that would bring the county's schools down from 16 to only nine.

Carter County's four high school would be centralized into one high school.

The leftover four high schools would then be refurbished to meet the needs of middle schools.

The total cost of the project is an expected $70 million.
