A local United Way made it to the finish line and won by reaching its goal for the first time in years.
The United Way of Elizabethton/Carter County recently exceeded their $140,000 goal for 2012.
We've learned this is the first time in about 10 years the organization has been able to meet their goal.
Officials say each of their eight agencies will now be served 100 percent. "They can meet their budget, provide the services needed to our community, to the citizens here that need the services. It's just a great asset that we did meet our goal this year," said Executive Director Debbie Guy.
We've learned United Way's goal was reduced after one agency had to close their doors because of funding in January 2013.
