WISE COUNTY, Va. -

Local law enforcement says they are investigating the death of a two-year-old. We have spoken to Wise County authorities about the case; they are not releasing many facts yet, but do confirm they got a call to Pole Bridge Road on Friday about a child not breathing.

The girl's father is filled with grief and is unsure how to respond to the tragedy, but says he wants answers about what happened. "She's a precious 2-year-old little girl who was adored by everyone," said Benjamin Baldwin, father of Emma Baldwin.

Baldwin was at his home when he received a call Friday afternoon about his baby girl being taken to the Norton community hospital.

The Wise County Sheriff's Department says they were called to the house on Pole Bridge Road about a child not breathing. “Her breathing was being assisted and they were working on her. They were going to med fly her down to UT Medical Center," said Baldwin.

Emma died on Monday. "I had my moments with her and I held her in my arms," said Baldwin.

Baldwin believes the toddler died from physical trauma and he wants answers. "I've just got to make it right by her," said Baldwin.

Now Wise County authorities say they are investigating this case and are waiting on autopsy results before releasing any information.

"There's no doubt that this child was loved by a lot of people. She still is and always will be," said Baldwin.

We have confirmed that Emma's mother, Brandie Baldwin and her boyfriend, Juwan Moore, are in custody in Knoxville on unrelated violation of probation charge.

Emma's body has been sent to Roanoke for an autopsy. It could take weeks to get those results and charges could be pending.

Funeral services for the two-year-old will be held in Covington, Kentucky.
