Construction now underway on a major retail project in Kingsport

Ground was broken Friday and grading began on Kingsport's newest retail shopping complex, known as 'Heritage Point Towne Center'.
"We started investing in this area 12 years ago, so we have 400 acres we have invested in," developer Stewart Taylor tells us. "The first phase of the projects going to be $8 million this year."
The complex is located off of Interstate 81 at exit 57 and will house retail stores. However, Taylor says the tenants are yet to be determined. "We have letters of intent from some retailers and hopefully we soon should be able to announce a major tenant," he said.
This development is located right off the interstate, where we've learned thousands of people drive by every day. "I-26 carries 47,000 cars a day. I-81 carries 27,000 cars. In a 20-mile radius of this site, there are over 200,000 people in our community," Taylor continues.
The project will include over one million square feet of retail, entertainment, and dining facilities.
But, the most important thing this will bring to the area is jobs. "One of our main focuses is how many jobs this project can create," Taylor says.
Sullivan County Mayor Steve Godsey adds, "this will be like pulling into Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. This place will be packed with automobiles from all across the country".
