Kentucky officials looking at number of baby deaths

Kentucky health officials are looking for a solution to the number of babies that die in the first year of their life in the state.

According to the Governor's Summit of Infant Mortality, nearly 14 percent of Kentucky babies are premature.

Hospitalizations for babies born addicted to drugs rose by an astonishing 2,400 percent between 2000 and 2011.

Both problems, Kentucky officials say, contribute to the high infant mortality rate. They also blame poverty, lack of education and drug abuse.

The state says they'll partner with March of Dimes and other organizations to lower the rate.
