Kingsport City Schools sends information letter to Colonial Heights students

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

Students in Colonial Heights who now face possible changes in county schools are being formally welcomed by Kingsport City Schools.

A letter was sent to all recently annexed parents in the Colonial Heights area by Superintendent of Schools, Lyle Ailshie.

We're told these letters are meant to remind parents they can take advantage of a city education.

Kingsport City Schools officials told us with a survey requested on the letter, it's also meant to help the school system get an idea of how many students may transfer, not to capitalize on county rezoning discussions.

"The timing is probably more coincidence, just because we're to the point now where we're starting to plan for next year," said Andy True, with Kingsport City Schools.

It's estimated around 80 annexed families will receive these letters, and they should start arriving in the mail Friday.
