LEGION POOL
KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

After 37 years, the Legion Pool in Kingsport will soon be closed for good.

We learned originally the pool was to stay open for a year after the new aquatics center opened.

Chris McCartt, Kingsport Assistant City Manager, tells News 5 they filled the pool 17 times last summer, amounting to $150,000 in added costs.

McCartt says with the bad weather and closing of the pool because of repairs, people have been counting down the days until the aquatics center opens so neither will be an issue. “We saw a lot of our customer base going, so we felt at the end of the day that to go ahead and make a clean break," said McCartt.

McCartt says the new aquatics center will be open by May 15, just in time for summer.
