BRISTOL, Tenn. -

The Let Freedom Ring event kicks off this weekend with historical planes, museum tours and a very special guest.

World War II veteran Colonel Gail Halverson of the United States Air Force will join in on the fun.

Halverson is 92 years old and is one of the first 'Candy Bombers' who flew over Berlin during the airlift of 1948 and 1949.

This is his second year participating in the event and he says he's happy to be back. "Wise is one of my favorite places. I've only been here once but I never forgot it," said Halverson.

Let Freedom Ring: A Salute to Veterans happens at Lonesome Pine Airport October 4th-6th at Lonesome Pine Airport in Wise County, Virginia. For more information you can call 276-328-5300
