ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. -

The Christmas season kicked off Tuesday night in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

For more than 20 years the city has lit up a 78' tall Christmas tree. The tree was planted shortly after the Civil War, making it almost 150 years old.

The tree, a Fraser fir, is believed to be the tallest of its kind in the state of Tennessee.

Fraser firs typically grow in much higher altitudes, making it very unlikely for them to grow in Elizabethton. Many call it a 'Christmas miracle.'
