WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. -

A man charged with starving four of his animals turned himself in to authorities Tuesday and is now out on a $4,000 dollar bond.

78-year-old Jimmie Carmichael faces four counts of animal cruelty after animal control officers told us they got a call about a sick horse on Saturday.

Animal control officer Wayne Thomas told us the horse had to be put down, and he found three other dead donkeys on his property.

Thomas said he believes the animals were not fed properly.

"There was probably 30 or 40 pounds of grain [that] was all on the property that I saw. There was no picking in the field; no hay, no straw, nothing," Thomas added.

Thomas said Carmichael's other three animals still living, two horses and a donkey, are now the property of the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter.

Officers hope to give them a new home by the end of the week.
