BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. -

The 10th annual free health check-ups week in Sullivan County kicked off Monday with a clinic for women, but Tuesday men got their chance for a round of free screenings.

The Sullivan County Regional Health Department offered free cholesterol screenings, nutritional counseling, blood pressure checks, even cancer screenings for men at no charge in their Blountville office.

Dr. Stephen May told us, this event counsels men in heart health, diabetes, and sometimes even detects common cancers in men, like prostate cancer and skin cancer.

"This morning I've already seen a fairly severe skin cancer we're doing an urgent referral for, so we pick up cancers every year, and when we stop picking up cancers then we can think about quitting," said Dr. May.

Both men and women have another chance for a free screening.

On Wednesday women can go by the health department's office in Kingsport on Sullivan Street between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

The clinic for men in Kingsport will take place on Thursday.
