JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

Northeast State Community College is nearing the completion of design work for the Downtown Center renovation in Johnson City.

We learned once the plans are finalized, the college will issue bids for construction. There will be two phases to the building process, but by the end, they hope to have 17 classrooms.

President of the College, Dr. Janis Gilliam says they're on a tight schedule. "We're hoping to get the classes up and running next fall. It's going to be a little tight with the construction, but we're looking forward and are very excited about it,  hoping to get classes off and going next fall," she said.

We're told, the building's exterior has been renovated with a new coat of paint and signage will be placed on the building very soon.
