CLINTWOOD, Va. -

Officials are hoping a new development brings new tourism dollars to Dickenson County.

After nearly five years in the making, a Sleep Inn & Suites is slated to open by the end of February in downtown Clintwood.

The 53 room hotel sits just about a block away from The Ralph Stanley Museum and right along The Crooked Road.

Clintwood's mayor Donald Baker told us he's hoping this will encourage visitors to stick around and create a boost in tax dollars.

"We bring in a bus tour and get a group of people in, and they don't have a place to spend the night, and they have to drive back into Wise County or Washington County or maybe even into Tennessee. Our plan is to keep those people overnight, because there [are] other places in the town they can visit," said Baker.

The hotel project was funded by the Industrial Development Authority in Dickenson County, as well as the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority.
