MIDDLE SCHOOL THREAT
BRISTOL, Va. -

The Bristol, Virginia Police Department released the following statement after an incident occurred at Virginia Middle School on Thursday.

On 11-29-12 the Bristol VA Police Department was contacted by school officials of Virginia Middle School in reference to a student who had written a list of students he wanted to “get” if he was diagnosed with “cancer or a life threatening illness.” School officials had located the list after a search of the student’s locker. The student denied any intent to harm anyone and discussed the list in the context of “dark humor.”

The student was suspended from school. The student’s guardian took the student to Highlands Community Services at Woodridge for a mental health evaluation.

The parents of the students whose names were on the list were contacted by the school. "We never thought there was any imminent danger. We investigated quickly and took action," said Superintendent Mark Lineburg.

After consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office it was determined that no crime had been committed and the matter will be handled by the school system and the child’s guardian.
