JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

A Washington County murder trial is beginning, seven years after the death that prompted it.

Pancho Delgado is charged with first-degree murder in the May 25, 2006, death of 41-year-old Robert Curtis.

Earlier attempts to try the case have been delayed by Delgado's health, the judge falling ill and witnesses who could not be found.

Delgado is accused of fatally stabbing Curtis and then setting his home on fire to conceal the crime.

The first trial of the 44-year-old suspect ended after only a day when Judge Robert Cupp became ill and had to be hospitalized.

A mistrial was declared when it was unclear whether Cupp had released the jury.

An appellate court ruled Delgado could again be tried.
