XMAS TREES TWRA
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

If you've taken your Christmas decorations down and are wondering what to do with Old Tennanbaum, we've got the answer.

The city of Johnson City, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency and Keep Johnson City Beautiful are collecting Christmas trees as part of the annual Tree-cycle program. TWRA will use the trees in local lakes to make fish habitats, not only helping the environment but also local anglers.

"It attracts the fish to an area where anglers can get to them more easily," explained John Hammonds with TWRA. "It also helps the fish out because it provides an area where there the little microscopic insects come in. The smaller fish eat those and the bigger fish eat those, so it really boosts the ecosystem."

The drop-off is through Saturday, January 19 at the Winged Deer Park boat ramp parking lot on Carroll Creek Road. Trees should be placed at the northwest side of the parking lot below the recycling drop-off station.
