Red Cross needs donors with type O blood

Johnson City, Tenn. -

Donors with type O blood are especially needed now. The American Red Cross says O negative blood can be safely transfused to any blood type.  They say it's in high demand in cases of trauma where there is no time to type a patient's blood. 

 

In a press release, the organization says The Red Cross Carolinas Blood Services Region includes East Tennessee and provides lifesaving blood to patients in 103 hospitals. They say approximately 1,600 people need to give blood or platelets each week day to meet hospital demands.  The Red Cross also says blood can be donated every 56 days.
