FALL BRANCH, Tenn. -

Tennessee Highway Patrol is ramping up efforts to lower fatalities on local roads.

It's a six-month campaign by THP, working with local law enforcement focusing on Sullivan, Greene, and Cocke counties.

Officials say these three counties had more than 100 deaths from 2010 to 2012.

Police are using two strategies to lower fatalities, those include working with teen drivers and increasing patrols.

"We have numerous sobriety checkpoints planned, we've got some seat belt checkpoints that will be enforced and officers are going to be looking for those who still choose to text and drive," said Steve Dillard with the Governor's Highway Safety Office.

Police tell us in Greene and Sullivan counties investigators worked more than 600-crashes caused by impaired drivers from 2010 to 2012.
