ALS WALK
KINGSPORT, Tenn. -

People were lacing up their walking shoes to help find a cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease Saturday.

Hundreds of people took part in the eight annual Walk To Defeat ALS at Warrior's Path State Park Saturday.

Organizers say the money raised will help local patients with care and support, as well as research to help find a cure or cause.

News 5 learned there's a reason for the walk, "Because you can has been our motto. The people that have ALS very quickly are not able to walk anymore, so it just makes sense to have a walk because we can still walk," said Brenda Hrivnak with Tennessee ALS Association.

We're told more than $115,000 was raised at this year's walk.
