GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -

UPDATE (8:24 a.m.):  Greeneville Director of Schools Linda Stroud says the lockdown has been lifted at Greeneville Middle School and Hal Henard Elementary.

Stroud says the schools were lock down for about an hour, and she says all children are safe.

A Wellmont Health System Spokesman says Takoma Hospital is still on lockdown as a precaution.

Reports of a man with a rifle and a bag led to two schools and a hospital to lockdown this morning.

News 5 WCYB spoke with Greeneville Director of Schools Linda Stroud who says the report came from parents.

They told officials they saw a man in the area with a rifle and a bag.

Stroud says the police chief made the decision to lockdown Greeneville Middle School, Hal Henard Elementary School, and Takoma Hospital.

Stroud says they were acting as a precaution while officers investigate in the area.

She says all students are safe and the lockdown will be lifted once they are given the all clear from police.
