BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. -

Crews in Sullivan County are mopping up water, but this is not from the day's rain.

A water pipe ruptured in the historic Sullivan County courthouse over the weekend.

The water flooded the downstairs foyer, causing damage to floor and ceiling tiles as well as the floor tiles of the elevator.

Officials also say the incident could have caused a lot more damage if the break had been on an upper level. They also say a floor drain caught most of the water and prevented more severe damage on basement level.

We’ve learned a pressure reducing valve turned out to be the problem.

County offices in the building will be open for business as usual on Tuesday.
