Communities across Virginia are mourning the loss of a 19-year-old woman.
Mary Goldsmith, known to her friends as Shelley, was from Abingdon. She had just started her sophomore year at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville when she died suddenly over the weekend.
According to her father, Shelley and some of her sorority sisters were in Washington, D.C. Saturday night to see a concert and then went to a club.
She told her friends she wasn't feeling well. She then collapsed and couldn't be revived.
We spoke to her father, Rob Goldsmith, on Monday. "Several people have been asking why and what happened. "I don't need to even think about that. I just know that she's not here anymore," he told us.
The Charlottesville community is also dealing with Shelley's death. Students painted a wall along a bridge in her memory (seen above). The university is offering counseling services to students.
Shelley was an honor student and a Jefferson scholar. She was one of only 117 students at UVa to receive a full ride scholarship.
