Appalachian Power is upgrading a transmission line that runs through western Virginia.
The company says it will replace the wire on the line by 2016. It will cost $40 million.
That will also include replacing seven towers and adding four new ones.
The upgrades will allow the line to carry more current.
Appalachian Power serves 500,000 customers in Virginia.
