JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

Despite the threat of rain all day, thousands of people across our area braved the weather to celebrate Independence Day.

Red, white, and a burst of wet weather -- rain or shine, the show went on at Johnson City's Freedom Hall civic center.

It wasn't hard to find people huddling under umbrellas. We ran into a John Mynatt's group, who brought plenty of gear this Fourth of July because they learned a very rainy lesson. "A few years back we had plastic covering us but we weren't as prepared that time," John told us.

Another family we found was more than prepared to keep Fourth of July fireworks a lasting tradition with a tent they set up just in time.

For those hard at work, food vendors were doing their best with tents and trucks to keep everything going.

Eventually the storm clouds moved out and people put down their umbrellas, but all eyes stayed on the sky for the grand finale.
