ASHEVILLE, N.C. -

The son of Asheville's police chief faces a charge of driving while impaired following a wreck in southern Buncombe County.

According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, 22-year-old Chad Anderson was charged after the car he was driving flipped at an intersection. Chad Anderson, who was not hurt, registered a blood-alcohol level of 0.16, twice the legal limit.

Sunday's accident comes five months after city police charged Anderson with leaving the scene of an accident on Montford Avenue in Asheville, where police say he wrecked his father's car. He initially told officers he was not driving.

After the March accident, Chad Anderson faced several charges, including obstruction of justice and reckless driving. The subsequent investigation by Asheville police stirred questions about whether Anderson received special treatment because of his father's position.
