SPENCER, N.C. -

Treasures from Blackbeard's pirate ship are moving to the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer.

The exhibit of artifacts from Queen Anne's Revenge opens Friday at the museum, where it remains through Aug. 31. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Saturday with state Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz making remarks, along with the museum's interim executive director.

The items are on loan from the N.C. Maritime Museum in Beaufort, which is the official repository for shipwreck artifacts.  The artifacts on display represent weaponry, nautical tools and personal items.  Blackbeard captured the ship in 1717 when it was a slave ship. His ship ran ashore in June 1718 in what's now Beaufort Inlet.

Previously, the exhibit was at the Museum of the Cape Fear in Fayetteville.

The wreck was located in 1996.
