BRITTANY BLOOD DRIVE
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

Saturday the Red Cross in Johnson City held a blood drive in memory Brittany Jo Hankel.

Hankel was a David Crockett High graduate died in a car accident in May of 2012 - she was 21.

Hankel's mom, Kim Foster, tells News 5 family and friends are honoring her memory by encouraging people to give blood since that was one of Brittany Jo's favorite ways to serve others.

"It's an amazing feeling because you are giving back to other people. That feeling can't be described. It's a wonderful gift to give to some else. And I know see felt that way,” said Kim Foster.

The Red Cross tells us the goal was to collect around 60 units of blood that will help 70 to 80 people.

They also encourage you to donate blood during the winter months when donations are typically lower than average.
