Carter Meth Bust
ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. -

From the outside all seems well with this house that sits right off of Highway 19-E in Roan Mountain.

But the Carter County Sheriff's department tells News 5 the inside of the house shows a much different story.

"When we did our initial assessment inside of the residence we located probably in excess of a hundred one pop bottles the magnitude it just overwhelming,” said Captain Mike Little of Carter County Sheriff’s Department.

According to Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes, it started they received an anonymous tip and after several weeks of watching the home found a massive meth operation inside.

They tell News 5 they arrested Timothy Blackwell who was in the house at the time on several counts of initiating a process intended to result in the creation of methamphetamine as well as aggravated burglary.

Investigators believe he broke into the once vacant home.

Captain Little tells News 5 this the largest meth lab he has ever seen and his department won't be to handle the investigation alone.

"It's far beyond the capability of what we are able to do so we have reached out to the Tennessee Department of Methamphetamine Task Force. They have secured funding through the DEA and we are actually having a private hazmat come in and assist us,” said Little.

The Carter County Sheriff's department tells us they will be working clean up the meth lab throughout Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

Authorities are working to clean up what they are calling the largest meth bust in the history of Carter County.

Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes tells us a two-week investigation and surveillance led to the seizure.

Agents were still on scene late Tuesday afternoon according to Sheriff Mathes. He tells us they found the lab at 8377 Highway 19-E in Roan Mountain.

We're told one person is in custody. They have identified the man as Timothy Blackwell. There is currently no word on what he is being charged with.
