Chamber of Commerce searching for new home
The Johnson City, Jonesborough, Washington County-area chamber of commerce is still searching for a new home.
The chamber has been in a building on East Market Street since 1978.
In 2008.. they purchased the old General Mills building on West Walnut Street in Johnson City, thinking that would become their new home. However, that building is scheduled to be torn down in the spring to make room for an $18 million multi-family housing project.
The chamber is looking to find a new place in the downtown area according to chamber president Gary Mabrey. "It's just time for us to find a place that presents a great image, is a good front door for the community," he said. "[It should] allow us to sell this wonderful community called Johnson City in Northeast Tennessee."
Mabrey says visitors often have trouble finding the chamber. That's one problem the chamber hopes to fix with a new location.
