Chikungunya fever reported in Tennessee

The Tennessee Department of Health is investigating the first potential case of Chikungunya in the state

According to the TDH, they're seeing the disease in people from Tennessee who have recently traveled to the Caribbean.

We're told the illness is a widespread epidemic there with over 100,000 thousand cases.

The TDH says the symptoms are painful and uncomfortable. There is no vaccine or treatment at this time for the illness.

Chikungunya is transmitted by daytime biting mosquitoes, but we've learned deaths are rare.
