SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

Tonight authorities are trying to find out how a four-year-old child jumped out of a school bus today.

Leslie Earhart with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says the boy opened the back door of the bus and jumped out just after 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on Centenary Road near Airport Parkway.

The driver stopped, called 911 and notified the school district. Earhart said the bus was marked in the median and not moving.

We spoke to Sullivan County school superintendent Jubal Yennie about the incident. "The child is fine, [there was] no other incident. A parent took the child home," he said. "We're going to take some other precautions. So what are those? We'll put another adult on the bus."

Superintendent Yennie also says the child is a pre-Kindergarten student Holston Elementary School.
