Closer to reaching a deal to sell wine in Tennessee grocery stores.
Tennessee grocery stores may soon be able to sell wine.
After years of bitter legislative fighting the state of Tennessee and the wine spirits retailers association may be close to reaching a deal. David Mcmahan, a lobbyist for the retailers association told the Associated Press today that both sides are quote "very, very close" to reaching a deal."
Under current law no store is allowed to sell any beverage with an alcohol content higher than 6.5%.
If a deal is reached it would allow a state vote whether to allow wine to be sold in supermarkets, with the exception of big box retailers such as Wal-Mart.
