Between 600-700 Piney Flats customers lost power Wednesday morning after a multi-vehicle wreck knocked down power poles on Highway 11E.
A spokeswoman from the Johnson City Power Board says eight power poles were damaged in the accident. Crews restored power for residents and businesses by noon Wednesday.
The Bluff City Police Department closed down Highway 11E near Industrial Park Road in Piney Flats both directions to investigate the wreck, which involved three vehicles. The stretch re-opened around 3:30 p.m.
Chris Barry, Assistant Chief of the Piney Flats Volunteer Fire Department, told News 5, "A lady driving towards Johnson City came across both lanes of 11E, hit a power pole, a Good Samaritan came to assist her, got her out of the vehicle. Once he had her in the vehicle, the power pole fell over her car, dropped a guide wire across 11E, and hit a semi truck," he says.
Barry also says the roof of the semi-truck was ripped off in the accident, but the driver did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the vehicle that ran into the power pole was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center for observation.
