Dog days of summer event held at Hardin Park

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -

The hot, humid weather was pretty appropriate for the Dog Days of Summer event Saturday in Greeneville.

The Imminent Danger German Shepherd Rescue, or IDGSR, is a no-kill, all volunteer organization whose members are passionate about german shepherd dogs. They served as Saturday afternoon's host at Hardin Park, educating pet owners and their families.

This was the first time the rescue hosted the event, a day for pet owners to meet one another and for dogs to get acclimated to other dogs.

There was live music, dog contests and a variety of dog toys, food and bedding for sale.

Greeneville City Police canine officers and their dogs showed up too.

"We want to educate people about German Shepherds. They're obviously not for everybody. They're a very high energy dog and they're great family dogs, but they need to be properly trained and guided," says Debra Lewellen, founder of IDGSR.

IDGSR is always looking for volunteers. You can get in touch with the rescue at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/idgsr.html.
