GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -

An East Tennessee physician and his wife have been indicted on federal charges they obtained unapproved foreign drugs and administered them at their cancer clinic.

The U.S. attorney's office for the Eastern District of Tennessee says 64-year-old Dr. Anindya Kumar Sen and his 65-year-old wife, Patricia Posey Sen, of Greeneville pleaded not guilty in court Thursday and were released pending trial set for Sept. 4.

The indictment accuses the Sens and their business, East Tennessee Cancer & Blood Center, of introducing misbranded drugs, illegally importing drugs and conspiracy.

Prosecutors say the Sens purchased more than $3 million in unapproved drugs and administered them to patients at the clinic. They also allege that claims were submitted to Medicare, TennCare and other health care programs claiming FDA-approved drugs were administered.
