ETSU is expanding their vision of being a 'military friendly' university by offering a new helping hand to out-of-state veterans.
University officials announced today their Buc Hero initiative.
The program offers unlimited Yellow Ribbon scholarships which helps cover 100 percent of an out-of-state, post 9/11 veteran's tuition.
A new Buc Hero scholarship will pay 60 percent of tuition to out-of-state veterans who do not qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program.
"The veterans have earned it. It's that simple. We don't look at this as we're providing something free or doing this, we're saying thank you. This Yellow Ribbon program and Buc Hero program is a thank you to our veterans," said Kevin Flanary, ETSU's veterans’ affairs coordinator.
We found out there has been a 300 percent increase in veteran students on ETSU's campus during the past decade, and the university is hoping to double their student veterans in the next five years.
