ETSU ROTC gets criteria

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -

We have new facts on ETSU's ROTC program that got a reprieve from the Army on Wednesday.

We learned Thursday that if ETSU meets the Army's criteria, then the program will come off of the two-year probation period and continue as normal.

The university says it should receive the official criteria from the army within a couple of weeks.

Congressman Phil Roe told News 5 the program will be required to graduate at least 15 officers each year.

That's something President Brian Noland says is possible. "Our mission is to commission 11 officers per year and we are in the queue to reach that mission. We anticipate that our new threshold will be 15," he said. "We will hit 15 this coming year."

Noland says they will graduate at least 20 officers each year when the probation period is over. 1,400 officers have graduated from the ETSU ROTC program.
