Events to collect prescriptions meds a success

Published On: Apr 29 2013 08:30:36 PM CDT
SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. -

Local police departments call their drug take-back events over the weekend a success.

The Bristol, Virginia Sheriff's Department reports people dropped off 72.8 pounds worth of unused prescription medications.

The sheriff's department will host another take-back event in October if you missed it this weekend.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department reports a collection of 40.6 pounds.

Sullivan County also has a deposit box in the sheriff's department's lobby if you still have medications you need to get rid of safely.

That deposit box is available Monday through Friday during normal business hours.

Officials say keeping prescription drugs out of the wrong hands has become a matter of health and public safety.
